Sustainability

Our Path Towards Net Zero Has Started

The global community has set the goal to reach overall climate neutrality until 2050.

As a supplier of production equipment, we want to make our contribution to this within all existing sustainability dimensions and at the same time be a reliable partner within the supply chains in the various sectors. Broetje-Automation is aware of its social responsibility and the importance to ensure resilience for todays and future business. Creating the Factory of the Future will be shaped by sustainable automation.

Broetje-Automation has therefore integrated sustainability as a core target in the corporate vision and strategy, with a perspective until 2050 and short-term targets until 2030.

Our Strategy

The sustainability strategy is based on four thematic pillars, each of which contributes to several of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Our sustainability pillars and SDG´s

The Sustainable Development Goals acording to Broetje-Automation´s main pillars.

Excellence in automation is an essential part of our DNA. We are convinced that we can have a positive impact globally with our products, services and consistent ambition to further develop our portfolio. With our expertise in modern, highly flexible production technology in various sectors that promote sustainability, we serve the aerospace industry as well as the wind energy sector as a key element of a sustainable energy supply. Environmental friendliness, resource efficiency and savings are our innovation drivers: we invest in sustainable R&D projects such as GREEN (reducing the power consumption of old systems), HyTank (development of hydrogen tanks for emission-free flying) and SHOREliner (electrically powered short-haul aircraft). Broetje-Automation maximizes the lifespan of production equipment through maintenance, spare parts, upgrades and retrofits (modernizing older machines to the latest technological standards), which improves efficiency, performance, safety and environmental sustainability and reduces the carbon footprint.

With their knowledge, daily commitment and team spirit, our employees are the foundation of our success. Broetje-Automation therefore offers above-average working conditions, promotes occupational safety and attaches great importance to training and further education. Important here is the trusting exchange and the participation of everyone in the overall project, also with regard to improvements. Respect for human and labor rights, including in the value chain, is firmly anchored as part of our Supplier Code of Conduct. We have also reaffirmed our commitment by participating in the UN Global Compact since 2023.

We face up to the challenge of protecting the climate and preserving biodiversity in the best possible way. As a supplier to the aerospace industry, we have a special responsibility. We utilize existing potential within our company, but also at our customers’ sites. Production technology and sustainable service concepts act as enablers to improve the climate and environmental impact of aviation by bringing low-resource aircraft generations to market quickly. We also make use of the levers available to us to increase the sustainability of our own products.

Compliance with laws and ethical principles is the basis of our business activities and our governance. We foster a culture of open communication and transparency. In this way, we strengthen our stakeholders’ trust in us. Broetje-Automation attaches great importance to mutual respect and fairness within our company and with our business partners.

UN Global Compact

Broetje-Automation is a participant of the UN Global Compact – A worldwide initiative founded to implement sustainable and socially responsible business practices. It established ten principles in the areas of human rights, fair labor practices, environmental protection, and corruption prevention, and supports the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

Quick Wins

As a locally rooted company, we see the preservation and promotion of biodiversity in our region in Ammerland also as part of our responsibility. Together with an Oldenburg start-up, several green spaces at the company‘s headquarters in Rastede were converted into bee-friendly flowering meadows in 2023 and a total of 13 apple trees, five cherry trees and four pear trees were planted. Thanks to the commitment of one of the company‘s employees, a bee colony could also be permanently settled at the site. In the future, not only 1.5 to 2 tons of fruit per year, but also honey can be harvested. The aim is to increase biodiversity, climate adaptation and improve the working environment at the Rastede site.

Implementing ecological mesures and hosting a bee colony at the headquarter to promote biodiversity.
