CU Innovation Days 2026: Industry Experts discuss production system for the next aircraft generation in Varel

Hosted by Composites United e.V. and Broetje-Automation, Airbus and CTC, the CU Innovation Days 2026 brought together around 100 industry professionals in the Technology Center Varel on September 28-29. The event was co-hosted by Broetje-Automation and provided a platform for knowledge exchange, networking and discussions on the latest developments in composites, automation and advanced manufacturing technologies.

Advanced Manufacturing Technology on Display

A highlight of the event was the accompanying exhibition area at the Technology Center in Varel. Here, participants had the opportunity to experience innovative technologies up close and engage directly with industry experts. Broetje-Automation has concentrated its composite automation activities in the TZV and gave an insight into recent developments.

Several robotic systems and automation solutions were showcased, including Broetje-Automation’s STAXX Family of Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) systems. Developed to meet the growing demand for flexible and highly efficient composite manufacturing, the STAXX platform combines automation, precision and scalability for a wide range of production requirements. Live demonstrations enabled attendees to experience the technology first-hand and engage directly with experts about the challenges and opportunities of automated composite product.

The exhibition area also served as the central networking hub of the event. Coffee breaks and lunch periods took place among the exhibits, creating an open and interactive atmosphere for technical discussions and professional exchange. The combination of displayed technologies, live demonstrations and informal conversations encouraged valuable dialogue throughout both days.

Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes Tours

The second day concluded with exclusive facility tours, giving participants the opportunity to experience industrial production environments first-hand. Attendees could choose between a visit to Airbus Aerostructures in Varel and a guided tour of Broetje-Automation’s headquarters and production facilities in Rastede.

At the Broetje-Automation facilities, participants gained an insight behind-the-scenes into advanced automation technologies and aerospace manufacturing solutions. Visitors explored production areas, learned more about current projects and technologies, and engaged directly with Broetje-Automation experts.

Bringing the Automation Industry together

The CU Innovation Days 2026 once again demonstrated the value of bringing together manufacturers, technology providers, researchers and industry experts. By combining technical presentations, live demonstrations and personal interaction, the event created an environment where ideas could be exchanged, partnerships strengthened and future innovations inspired. The preparation for the production system for the next generation of aircraft requires significant effort and technologies that bring automated manufacturing and assembly a leap forward. No partner can do this alone, therefore collaboration and cooperation is the only way towards the Industrialized Composite Production of Tomorrow

Broetje-Automation is proud to have supported this year’s event alongside Airbus and CTC and would like to thank Composites United e.V., all speakers, exhibitors and participants for two inspiring days filled with valuable insights, meaningful discussions and new connections that will help drive the future of manufacturing forward.
