As a globally active industrial company, we bear responsibility for our actions in the world. Broetje-Automation has therefore made sustainability a core component of its corporate strategy. For the 2023 financial year, a sustainability report based on the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive has now been published for the first time.
We are pleased to present the first sustainability report for Broetje-Automation for the 2023 financial year. In doing so, we underline our commitment to a more sustainable future in all relevant areas of environmental, social and governance areas.
The implementation of a comprehensive sustainability strategy brings numerous advantages for Broetje-Automation. By integrating sustainability into our daily work, the company can increase its efficiency and competitiveness, for example by using resources more consciously and developing innovative technologies, maintaining resilient business relationships and having a strong and skilled workforce. A strong sustainability strategy also promotes employee retention and motivation, as it contributes to an environmentally aware and socially responsible working environment.
Transparent reporting on sustainability aspects strengthens the trust of customers, investors and other stakeholders. This can lead to an improved reputation and a stronger market position for Broetje-Automation. Overall, the sustainability strategy helps to minimize long-term risks while opening up new business opportunities, which ensures the long-term stability and success of our company.
In order to implement these aspects for Broetje-Automation, we rely on four strategic priorities:
These pillars reflect our commitment to promoting advanced production technologies, empowering our people, protecting the environment and maintaining integrity in all our business processes. In these areas, we are creating the necessary data basis and have already been able to implement numerous measures or have already completed them.
Broetje-Automation maximizes the lifespan of production equipment through maintenance, spare parts, upgrades and retrofits, which improves efficiency, performance, safety and environmental compatibility and reduces the CO2 footprint. Innovative projects such as GREEN (reducing the electricity consumption of old plants), HyTank (developing hydrogen tanks for emission-free flying) and SHOREliner (electrically powered short-haul aircraft) promote sustainability. Broetje-Automation is also involved in the automation of wind turbine production to support the energy transition. Quality and sustainability are central corporate strategies, supported by lean-oriented processes and certifications according to ISO 9001 and EN 9100, among others.
Employee representation plays a central role in co-participation at Broetje-Automation, as do regular hybrid work councils and training. Networking measures and international cooperation promote intercultural understanding and respectful cooperation. Continuous employee qualification is made possible through training and further education as well as dual study programs. Practical training secures the next generation of skilled workers. Health and safety at work are particularly important to us, with comprehensive health measures that help improve the well-being of our employees. Flexible working time models and home office options contribute to the compatibility of professional and private life. In addition, the supply chain will be optimized to take sustainability aspects into account here as well.
Climate change and environmental protection are becoming increasingly important and are influencing our business environment. Conversely, our actions also have an impact on the environment. Broetje-Automation bears responsibility and supports climate-friendly aviation and the energy transition through efficient production technologies and sustainable service concepts.
The company is ISO 14001 certified, records emissions according to the GHG Protocol (Greenhouse Gas Protocol) and works to reduce them. In addition to bee-friendly flowering meadows, fruit tree planting and the establishment of a bee colony at the Rastede site, initiatives also include other measures such as the reduction of unused equipment to promote digitalisation, the installation of LED lighting, the conversion of company cars to e-cars and the leasing of e-bikes for employees.
This pillar refers to measures and strategies that protect the integrity of a company. These include ethical behavior, compliance, information security, and transparency. The Code of Conduct and regular training ensure ethical behavior. An anonymous whistleblower system treats reports confidentially. Compliance objectives include competition law, anti-corruption, data protection, patent law and product liability. Employees are trained and informed about their obligations. In addition, the effectiveness of compliance management is regularly reviewed by internal and external audits.
By implementing and implementing these topics at an early stage as well as publishing our first sustainability report, we are laying the foundation for Broetje-Automation to comply with the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), which will come into force on January 1, 2025. In the coming years, we will continue to expand this and integrate it into the company’s strategy.
